My entry for this month’s Character Design Challenge - adventurous sausage dog on it’s faithful stallion. Every time you give your dogs a raincoat be careful, they may think it’s a cape and get ideas.
I have a rant about AI. I already complained to everybody around me but I’m still feeling pretty down because of it so I’ll just do the good old crazy-person-yelling-on-the-metro type of rant.
I tried to see what the fuss is all about and asked AI to imagine “adventurous sausage dog sitting on a toy horse” for me and you can see the results in the last picture. Ok fair enough I picked the first crap design on purpose without ever trying harder, I do acknowledge you can generate pretty good stuff with it. However, if you are a digital artist like me and need consolation now.. like me - the main difference that makes your art better than AI is… you. AI doesn’t love sausage dogs the way I do, AI doesn’t believe they have inner life and crave adventures, AI doesn’t squeak when somebody shows it pictures of their sausage dog on the phone and this is the type of thing that makes a difference. You can’t tell AI how to feel about the thing you are creating and what type of feelings you want to evoke in your viewers.
Will that emotional aspect to art still be of value further down the line? I hope so.
